I have need of such a glaze, and made a variant of the famous Chappelles
Floating Blue. The Floating Blue works beautifully with brown where thin
like on edges and the like. The variant I tried simply turned brown all
over.
Does anyone have a green glaze - Cone 6 - that breaks brown on edges and
anywhere thin??
Would be willing to try any green.
Thanks,

John
I have found that floating blue when applied thin is green and breaks
brown. But applied thick and it's the same old floating blue. I added
some extra rutile and red iron oxide to get this to happen. I can't
give you exact amounts, because dumbdumb me just threw some in.

Hi John:
Have you seen the floating green that is posted on John Hesselberth's
website (www.frogpondpottery.com)? I tested it a long time ago and it
seemed presentable if you like glossy glazes. A subdued green that breaks
brown.

Hi John
I have moved my yahoo glaze photos to the above address.
Look at the Gartside by Volume album and there are some variations with
both Cobalt and Red Iron.
My best green breaking brown glaze to date is this Brian's volume base
that I converted to grams (I know Brian, I had to complicate things, but I
am unfortunately, no Ratatouie in the glaze lab)
28 3134
28 Kaolin
14 G-200
14 Silica
7 Talc
7 Whiting
I think addeing 2 Cobalt and 3 RIO will give you something to work with.
best regards, Alisa in Denmark
