When using mason stains over a majolica glaze.....I use 1 tsp stain to 3
tsp GB (gerstly borate) some of my colors come out nicely over the white
majolica stain, but I am having trouble with others coming out with a
metallic look, rough surface and dim on color. What else should , could I use
to enhance the colors and have the stain come out with less of a metallic
look and rough surface? Thanks ( ps am firing to ^04.) KEN

"Glaze Guru", Pete Pinnell, suggested that for Cone 06-Cone 02 Majolica
decoration using Mason Stains try using equal parts of stain, Gerstley
Borate, and Frit 3124.

Hi, have worked in Majolica for years. Love the challange, UGH! Some Mason
stain colors are not very refractory and do have a rough, metallic
appearance. What colors are you having problems with? Maybe I can help.
