All the posts about warping plates reminded me that I wanted to share my =
bit of good luck with you all.
In a recent cone 7 firing, I had two dinner size plates to fire. I =
placed one of them on a shelf that had taller bowls, then bridged it =
with a 12" by 6" shelf, and placed the 2nd plate on it.
With some clays this might have been OK (I swear I've done it before) =
but these plates were B-mix (cone 10, yes) and the top plate warped, =
because the sides of it's foot ring were not totally on the shelf.
So I thought, "Hey, if it's getting this soft, maybe it can reshape =
itself". I put it in my next hi firing, on a normal flat shelf, and IT =
WORKED!
...the plate looked perfect, and nests in the other one just fine, =
everything is even.
Good firings,
Ann Brink in Lompoc CA, where we have about 80 degrees today, and people =
are complaining about the heat.
(mostly about pottery)
