Expect Sodium Carbonate to react with Alumina and Kaolin. It is a =
compound used to digest stubborn samples for qualitative analysis and =
fusion gives water soluble products.
Even if there is no water, progressive thermal cycling will eventually =
give rise to low melting point slags. We might predict these will have =
adverse coefficients of thermal Expansivity which leads to the spalling =
Vince describes.
