Drinking straw with a hole near your mouth.
Canister vacuum cleaner with that little hole near the handle opened.
You get less suction at the business end of the device because of
additional inlets (you're spreading the suction over a wider area so
if you don't increase the volume of suction, the power of suction at
each inlet is reduced).
