Marci.
Your photos of the tiles were amazing. Thanks for posting them. They
were more Gaudi than Gaudi!
I am a big Gaudi fan. Your detail photos were pure eye candy.
Also the elephant paintings are very interesting. There was a story
about an elephant at the San Diego zoo
that painted an EMergency Med. ambulance after a zoo visitor had a
heart attack and the EMT came to the rescue.
Really winder about elephants.

Hi all,
Marci, your photos were absolutely wonderful. I visited Thailand in the
80's and was there for only about four or five days on a self directed =
tour.
Not being interested in tiles at the time, I did not notice them but did =
see
all the gold leaf floating about in the wind from the temples where the =
Thai
people placed their small squares of gold leaf on the buddhas which were
everywhere. I don't remember ever seeing so many buddhas of all sizes =
and
shapes. We also were entertained by the dancers at a wonderful =
restaurant
where we sat at tables which were floor level and we sat below them.
Wonderful food, I might add. =20
I agree that one of the things that struck me at the time was the beauty =
of
the individual Thai people. We did get to see a lot and were also
entertained by the people doing the famous bamboo dance, also ate at the
restaurant where one seemed to be floating in the river only because of =
the
lotus plants flowing by in the adjacent river. We took the boat on the
canal and saw many children and adults, with the huge jars under the =
houses
up on stilts. We also visited a pottery and saw the kiln, but the =
potter
was painting the finished undecorated pots with a shellac like =
substance. I
even wondered if the pots had been fired. They threw the pots on a =
wheel
that was positioned on a spindle in the ground and used a stick to get =
the
speed up as I remember it. =20
I also took a lot of slides of the flowers which were abundant. Another
amazing thing were the monkeys which skittered about on the rooftops and
into the gardens and everywhere which we could see from our hotel =
window.
The traffic was horrendous as well so we hired a driver in their funny
little cabs who took us on a very exciting fast trip where he wound in =
and
out of traffic, went down alleys of very fancy homes during which we
wondered if we were being kidnapped!!! =20
Probably the things that you saw were added after the time we were there =
as
we searched all the brochures to cover the things we were interested in.
Saw no elephants or tigers either. We were only able to see the palace =
from
the street as it was not available for touring.
On our trip to the orient we took slides as our purpose was to give =
slide
talks about our trip to various organizations when we came back home. I =
am
so glad that you shared these pictures with us. What a trip!!!
