Kudos to Lori Leary for organizing a wonderful workshop at Brookgreen
Gardens! Steve Branfman of The Potter's Shop did informative demos of
different throwing and decorative techniques, and kept his cool DESPITE
the one (ahem...)"participant" who appears to have become infatuated with
him.
We fired the raku pieces this afternoon. Ye Gods! That alligator glaze
was quite a surprise......

Forgot to mention that I got to meet some Clayart LURKERS!!!! Y'all come
out of the woodwork now!
I have been online since the internet was just a baby, and one of the
most fun things is getting to meet 'net friends in person. Contrary to
those stories you hear/read about where a person met their 'net friend
and the friend was NOTHING like the way he/she presented him/herself....I
have never had that problem, thank goodness.

Now now, Lisa....don't you be startin' rumors now....
BUT....Lisa is right on this....it WAS a great workshop.
Steven wowed us all with his throwing and decorative skills; beautiful
forms and graceful pots were the order of the weekend. Intriguing
firing possibilities were presented. It was a pleasure to watch,
listen, do and learn. Steven is serious; very serious about his work.
He does not play in the clay; that is for sure.
But don't think we didn't have fun....Saturday night found us eating
oysters as fast as my husband could shovel them off of the fire.
Somehow, we all managed to finish off 4 bushels of oysters. Who ate the
most? I'll never tell.....
Workshops are wonderful because of the gathering of people from all over
with a common interest; in this case, clay and what we can do with it.
I love the camaraderie that develops in the workshop group. The
sharing, the inside jokes, the "guess you *just* had to be there" humor.
And I especially like that "okay, gotta go home and get to work, got to
try out some new ideas" feeling.
And I am so glad to know that Steven can throw pots up to his nose....
IF he wants to......(Sorry, guess you *just* had to be there)
To Lisa, Julie, Ashleigh, Laura and Sue....it was great to see you
Clayarters in person. And to Steven...thanks for a great job.
Let's do it again sometime.

Yeah, but can he glue the clay to the wheelhead and turn it upside down
to throw?
