Hello Potters,

Since there is continuing interest in the Val Cushing Pam Fredericks =
Satin Matte glaze, I've posted a number of pictures on Flickr at =
http://www.flickr.com/photos/12720131@N03/sets/72157601883591415/detail/

One of the other glazes on several of the pieces, over which the VC =
glaze is layered is Amy's Blue Violet (from Ceramics monrthly many years =
ago)- recipe below. It does contain barium, and I only use it on the =
outside of pots. I also had it leach tested for barium at the Alfred =
labs, and the results are on John Hesselberth's Frog Pond Pottery =
website, under Glaze Stability.

By the way, I plead guilty to submitting the Val Cushing glaze to Mike =
Bailey for his Cone Six glaze book. If I indicated it was for cone 6-7 =
as stated in the book, I must have been smoking something. Cone 5 1/2 =
is more like it.

Judy --

Wonderful work -- great glazes, and I especially liked
the form of the pumpkin pitcher. I'm gratified to hear
that you also find it's a 5 1/2 glaze and not a 7. Are
the speckles in the glaze from the clay beneath?

Best wishes -- Steve Slatin
