Thanks, Arnold, for replying to my questions=85sounds like I may have =
over
fired a bit on the firings I thought were =93perfect=94=85 I was =
encouraged by
Mel=92s recent comments on getting to know your kiln after about 1,000
firings=85maybe there=92s hope after all! I gather I am a little too =
quick to
replace elements and thermocoupler. My problem is I have trouble =
viewing in
the peepholes. I have the special glasses, but find that =93peeping=94 =
hurts
the back of my eyes=85guess I just need to be quick about it and get use =
to
it! I am so new at all of this=85I love making the pots or hand =
building my
pieces, but had no (REAL) clue as to the rest of the process=85find the =
glaze
and firing process pretty intimidating. When I read some of your posts =
and
see your awesome pieces I wonder if any of you had such problems or ever
felt so intimidated and =93green=94 on the process! It is with =
=93Christmas
morning=94 surprise, though each time I open the kiln and get even one =
pot
that I sit back and smile over=85 thinking, if I can do it once, I can =
do it
again! But how can it be that so many times my glazes turn out to be so
totally different than my expectations??? It all comes down to the =
firing
process, doesn=92t it!?=20

There is only a 4 - 5 degree F difference between a=20
self-supporting cone tip that is even with the top of the=20
base and one that is touching the shelf.

Someone on Clayart once suggested viewing the cones with a=20
cell phone camera so you wouldn't have to look into the=20
peephole. I haven't tried this yet, but it sounds promising.=20
I would filter the camera with firing safety glasses.
