converting electric to gas kiln

I am at the beginning of planning the conversion of an very old beater
electric to a gas fired kiln. The purpose is to create a kiln for the post
firing reduction of crystalline glazes. I will only be operating in the
1400=B0F - 1500=B0F range.
I'd like to construct this as a downdraft - already have an updraft kiln.

The kiln is 14 1/2" wide x 14 1/2" deep and 20" tall, so it's a rather smal=
l
chamber.

Trying to decide if I want the burner port in the floor - burner under the
kiln - over to one side of the chamber with a bag wall to help direct flame
up - with a flue at the bottom of the opposite wall - OR - have the burner
port at the bottom of a wall - burner coming in horizontally - flame going
under a shelf to opposite side of kiln and exit flue on the same wall as
burner, but located slightly above.

Any thoughts, suggestions?

Thanks, Bill
