Ok....more thoughts....
Perhaps look for the Studio Potter
Article about David Shaner...who was
Firing beautiful high manganese dioxide
Glazes...and getting wonderful surfaces...
His kiln was inside his studio in
Cold Montana...
Just as a note...the most DIRECT pathway...
Let me repeat...the most DIRECT pathway
For toxic material is to breathe the
Stuff....
I also think aside from the flame...
The kiln vents the fumes generated
From the firing for a period of
The firing up to temperature...
And of cooling....so about
(I'm guessing here) 20 hours....
The result for Shaner's kiln,
was the fumes from the glazes
During his firing
Caused the metals in the glaze to
Combine with his blood on a
Molecular level....so the toxins
Became so dense...it killed
Him...I remember the article
Saying he had five times the
Amount of metals in his blood from
What is considered normal...
Once they figured out what was
Wrong...he didn't last.....
So...perhaps another source
For your research...
I had a kiln outside...and
The construction costs were
Perhaps $100.00 for cinder blocks
And sheet metal for a cover that
I would remove when firing...and
Replace/cover after....
Not a big deal....
Kept the kiln protected from
The elements....
