My name is Louise Lashambe, almost new to the list, in search of information
regarding Anderson Ranch and Penland. I try to take at least two (one to two
week) workshops each year. I've taken the information about Arrowmont into
consideration. I was seeking opinions about the other two centers however.
Thanks for your time.

Louise,
Haven't been to Penland yet, but Anderson Ranch is great. I did a 2 week
workshop with Andy Nacisse and Mary Engle a few years ago, and had an
excellent time. The Ranch is on the edge of a golfcourse in Snowmass, but it
has a nice rustic feel, as the clay studio is situated in an old barn, and
has many windows and an incredible view of the mountains. There are a few
housing options, depending upon how much $ you want to spend. I lived in a
townhouse off campus which enabled me to cook my own dinners, but the food
was quite good at the cafeteria, and you'll probably want to at least lunch
there.
There was one woman who camped several miles away, should want to consider
cheaper housing. . .
Doug Casebeer had a nice informal party toward the end of our stay, where we
were graced with Mr. Soldner's presence and homemade wine!

With all the artists to choose from, you really can't go wrong!

Have fun!

Louise;
Took a workshop at the Anderson Ranch in '88 from Dave Shaner.
What a wonderful guy. The facility is terrific and inspiring.
There are always other workshops going on at the same time too.
(Robert Turner, and Hafner when I was there, so you get that added
benifit) Great location and people (Soldner strolled thru every
so often) etc etc......but the cost is dear, so choose your workshop
carefully.
