1998 McKnight Artist Fellowships and Residencies for Ceramic Artists -
Application Deadline: March 31, 1998 at 5 pm.

Northern Clay Center is announcing the second year of the McKnight Artist
Fellowships and Residencies for Ceramic Artists program, funded by the
McKnight Foundation, Minneapolis. The Program provides two kinds of direct
support for individual ceramic artists:

- McKnight Artists Fwllowships for Ceramic Artists support outstanding
Minnesota ceramic artists who have already proven their abilities and are at
a career stage that is beyond emerging. Two grants of $15,000 each are
awarded annually. Fellowship support may be used for, but is not limited to,
buying time, experimenting with new techniques and materials, purchasing
equipment, collaborating with other artists, and pursuing education,
exhibition, or travel opportunities.

- McKnight Artist Residencies for Ceramic Artists provide mid-career
ceramic artists an opportunity to be in residence for three months at the
Northern Clay Center. Each resident artist receives a $3,500 award and is
provided studio space, and glaze and firing allowances. Applicant artists
are to submit their applications in pairs: at least one of the pair must be
from outside Minnesota. (Both artists may be non-Minnesota residents, or one
artist may be from outside Minnesota and one from Minnesota. The only
combination not possible is for both artists to be Minnesota residents.) It
is expected that selected artists work both independently and collaboratively
during their residencies. At the end of the residencies, each pair will
present a public workshop, for which each artist will receive a $300
honorarium.

As part of the project, the Clay Center will present a group exhibition of
the work of the 1998 McKnight artists.

The deadline for the 1998 McKnight Artist Fellowships and Residencies for
Ceramic Artists is Tuesday, March 31, 1998 by 5 pm. All applications must be
received at the Clay Center by this day and time. This is not a postmark
deadline. No late applications will be accepted. Awards will be announced
in late March.
