Job description: Assistant Studio Manager
Reports to: Studio Manager
Hours: 25 hours per week on average, on a schedule
to be
determined, including some fixed hours,
some flexible
hours.
Responsibilities:
Organize supplies, set up classrooms, fire work, and provide other support
as needed, for visiting artists, workshops and residencies, and outreach
programs
Assist loading and unloading of all kilns (electric and gas) for class
firings - bisque and glaze
Assist monitoring of firings
Assist kiln and kiln room clean-up
Assist clean up and change over of classrooms between quarters
Clean and organize glaze room
Assist Studio Manager in making beginning of quarter class orientation
visits
Other tasks as assigned.
This is a permanent, part-time, salaried, exempt position, at a salary
commensurate with experience. Benefits include studio space at the Clay
Center.
Qualifications
Requirements for applicants:
-have a strong background and demonstrated experience in loading and
firing kilns, and be able to manage, from start to finish, all forms of high
and low-fire (gas,electric, soda, raku).
-have a demonstrated ability to work independently as well as under
supervision, and must have demonstrated organizational skills.
-be physically fit, and able to lift and carry substantial weight.
-be able to work with a variety of people, and respond evenly to a range
of questions from students, studio artists, instructors, and the general
public.
-be able to work on a flexible schedule, to be determined by the Studio
Manager.
-have a bachelor's degree in ceramics or a related field; a master's
degree will be preferred.
In addition to the above requirements, the following are desired abilities,
to have been demonstrated in previous employed positions:
-knowledge of and ability to perform kiln repairs and wheel repairs;
-experience in light construction;
-knowledge of and experience in equipment maintenance, such as lighting
and plumbing and small equipment.
