In my recent works, I apply and remove rutile on surfaces to bring out the details which go flat in bisque firing. The rutile brings life back into the details, adding a 'darker' quality or 'edge' to the surfaces.
As I'm not glazing new sculptures, I've been experimenting with Milk Paint. They offer a color similar to rutile, which I apply to surfaces, then wipe off with a sponge in the same manner. When burnished or waxed Milk Paint offers a surface similar to terra sigilata.
