The pad will be poured on Wednesday this week, so soon we start to
play with bricks!
Have a question about Nils' venturi step-down at the top of the flue
chamber, where there is a restriction down to 5.5 inches
square...From the reference photos I've found in his book, and on the
web, it appears that most of the kilns with this feature go to one or
another form of metal stack, near to the size of this restriction.
I have lots of extra brick, so was wondering if I could continue the
stack up with brick, but at the original dimension (2 brick x 2
brick). Would that substantially hinder the venturi effect?
the kiln will be powered by "hi-pressure" propane. In other words,
it will not be dependent solely on the natural draft of a tall stack,
as the gas will have a regulator to allow pressure greater than
standard residential appliances.
