i have added four digital pictures of my ten dollar burners that
come from home depot. clayart page/click below.
no welding, no tools except a drill and screw driver.
they work like a charm.
i buy a six inch pipe nipple...2-4 inches round.
the one pictured is a two inch pipe.
i buy a lamp holder that ties into a ceiling fixture.
it has an 1/8th inch tapped hole in the middle.
buy an 1/8th inch nipple, a cap/drill a small hole in the cap
to size for your gas needs/ and a connector.
add a 1/4th to 1/8th inch reducer and you are set.
most gas hose comes with a 1/4 inch connection system.
you can step up if need be...just add a bigger reducer.
bend the lamp holder to fit the pipe...drill a hole and
add a self tapping screw. put it all together and you have
one dandy burner. this one would fire a raku kiln just fine.
two would fire our small flat top.
we crush a beer can...and set the burner in the squash.
you could easily build a cradle...i use those 2x6 attachment
metal cradles used to add a deck to a house. wire it in.
or, if you weld...weld it all together with a cradle.
(phil will stick this together with rivets.)
you can add a baso valve and a 1/4inch ball valve for your
on and off....tap a screw in the end to hold the thermocouple.
this also makes a great overnight burner when you add the
\thermocouple/baso valve safety equipment. i am sure you
can find a baso valve on an old gas water heater.
some people go to college, read books, get degrees...the rest
of us have to pee on the electric fence to find out it works.

Mayor Mel and others,
I want to know what orifice size I need to drill through the cap for
these Home Depot burners and what that is in fractional inches por
favor. I don't have AWG bits.
It took a few minutes to fabricate two of these burners, Mel, and I
did it mostly for the experience. Do want them to work though. I use
LP with a high pressure regulator (1 to 15 psi) in an old square
paragon conversion, maybe 17 inches a side. Sweet! Next...oil drum
kiln and forced air, grrrrrrr.

When I made mine I used 1/16". That was the same as the orifice on the
75,000 Laguna Venturi Burner.

I am late in getting a picture up of my rendition of Mel's 10 buck
burners. I have put a quick post onto my pots blog. Sorry about the
delay. I still have not used these burners, but they were very very
easy to put together. I will probably have to get longer pipe nipples
as my current length seems a bit short. I have a cast iron burner in
the pic for comparison.
This is Mel's original thread so check here and elsewhere for
discussion on orifice etc.
