May I say that you are fortunate to be able to take these workshops. They
can change you and\or your work forever. Penland, Haystach, Arrowmont,
Anderson Ranch and many other places are wonderful facilities. My personal
experience was at Haystack in Maine. It was wonderful. My first
consideration, however, would be the instructor. First become familiar
with their work and then find out if they can teach. There is nothing more
disappointing that taking the time and spending the money and looking
forward to a workshop that turns into a disaster. Even some of the best
potters can't teach, or won't. Sometimes they are very disorganized or
just downright incompetent. Choose something that has a description that
suits your interest and skill level and then ask the network for feedback
on the teacher. Hope this helps,
