Hi! I just fired a bisque kiln ^06 in a gas updraft kiln. Some of the
stoneware pieces turned white. They seem to absorb water like any other
bisqueware, I didn't over fire as far as I can tell, so I am at a loss as
to why this happened. Has this happened to anyone else and do you know why?
Thanks for helping

Hello Sarah:
Are you firing more than one claybody? It's not unusual for stoneware clays
with a low iron content to fire white or off-white in the bisque. With more
iron in the clays, one would expect to see a pinker cast to the bisque ware.

Hi Sarah,
Sometimes bisque will come out different colours because some is reduced
while the rest is oxidized. I certainly remember seeing that when I was
learning to fire my kiln. The more iron in the clay the more obvious the
difference.
