i have always held that yellow ochre should be used
in clay bodies. it is a weak form of iron, and adds
well to clay or slip.
we used a very rich yellow iron for the iron saga
project and fired hot with oxidation gave us a brilliant
yellow glaze....like sunflowers.
i think joe koons received more inquires from around the world
about the yellow glaze by double then hare's fur.
my observation is:
ochre can be muddy in a glaze.
yellow iron is rich and full of color.
if one reduces heavily...there is not a great
deal of difference between yellow and red iron.
this is based on observation.
