Pat Southwood on wed 3 oct 07
Hi Primal,
I had to throw a couple of my 4" bottles in porcelain today for a =
particular firing and wedged about 4oz of leftover porcelain onto about =
10lb of my high iron s/w body. Thinking that at worst it would "get =
lost" and at best it would be interesting, bit smoother, bit whiter, =
etc.
it went dead weird,
Totally changed the texture of the s/w body, it went "moussey",- (like =
hair mousse, not mice!)=20
and I will put it away for a few months to see if it changes texture.
Totally not what I expected at all.
Probably not much use to you as info goes, but clay never ceases to =
suprise.
Perhaps consider porcelain slip over your existing body, a lot less =
effort, cheaper, and a nice white background. Plus you can pull the =
"value added" tag of porcelain without having to throw with the ghastly =
stuff. (sorry chaps)
My clay loves woodfiring and hates salt n soda 'cos of the high iron =
content , but with porc slip over, its yummy,
Hope it helps.
Pat Southwood
P.S. I like the roll up the sleeves approach personally.
