need an "image gallery" for my website

updated sun 7 oct 07

Paul Borian on thu 4 oct 07

I was using a shopping cart for a while to display images of my pottery
but one the owner of one of the best galleries i deal with expressed
concern that my site, with retail prices, could be competing with them
since they are in a tourist area and any of their customers could easily
find me when they want to re-order instead of going through the gallery's
website. I knew this would happen eventually so i decided to forget about
the shopping cart and just took it down from the site.
Now i don't have any practical way to display images on my site so i need
to find a place i can download some kind of image gallery and index it
into my site. I would prefer not to use something like flickr or whatever
since there would likely be all kinds of strange adverisements that i
don't want on my site. So i just want to buy something. Does anyone have
suggestions? All i need are the pictures with some text below each picture
and a way to scroll over and supersize them.
thanks,
Paul

Paul,
Look at my wife's web site.
She built it in a few days
using Microsoft Front Page 2000.
Her domain name:
http://www.UniquePorcelainDesigns.com
is hosted by godaddy for very little since it
actually rolls over to:
http://www.users.lewiston.com/bwendt/index.htm
which is free up to 10 MB from our ISP
(First Step Internet charges $15.00/ month)
See if this is what you have in mind.

Do you have Photoshop, or a friend who has it? There is an amazing
automated web page maker called Web Gallery. It uses images in a
folder and makes a nice little page with thumbnails and a place for
the bigger images. Here's a link to one I made of our newly adopted
rescue Pug Jack for his old owner, to show he's happy.. http://

Jennifer, all for automation, in web work anyway!

I can't say enough good stuff about Flickr. Go Pro and you won't get any
adverts. It's the best. You can get the capability to do a slide show and
link it to your web site.

I'm curious, though, why you just wouldn't display images on your web site.
No gallery should have a problem with you doing that.

If you're set up with your own web site and access to a cgi-bin*,
Menalto's Gallery is pretty nice.

There are even a number of web hosts that have it as an optional one-
click install:
http://gallery.menalto.com/wiki/Web_Hosting_Referral_Page

It's not really that hard to install and is free as well as highly
customizable.

Hello;

PictoBrowser - This widget allows you to make slide show in your site or blog using your Flickr photo sets.

This interface is nicer than a Photoshop generated slide show.

You mean the gallery expects exclusive rights to selling your work?

I wouldn't agree to that. They shouldn't have any trouble
as long as you are not discounting heavily.

If you are familiar with the way shopping cart software works, you
should look Gallery2. Tons of templates, you can customize of course
(open source), database backend, automatic resizes, etc. etc.
