My room mate and buddy Trevor is down with the squirts. He is pretty
dehydrated and has been bed ridden for the past 36 hours. I've been hanging
around trying to help keep him alive with fruit smoothies and such but I
think it just has to run it's course. So I've had time to shoot off 3 new
additions to my blog that I hope you enjoy.Going to jump on the Chinese
Harley and go out to the country side again tomorrow. We are off on Monday
for a 8 hour bus ride to Yixing to make teapots for 5 days. I'm sure I'll
find an internet cafe and keep you posted of that adventure.
For now I just gotta get my buddie able to sit on a bus without crapping
himself. That could turn an 8 hour bus ride into a 12 hour ride.
I continue to keep my food guard up.
cheers,
Tony

Excellent advice Phil. Tony is well advised to do as you have recommended.

Hi Tony,
Sorry to hear this...
He needs Electrolytes...in a form more direct and intentional than Smoothies
or soft drinks are going to do.
Potassium mostly, but also Sodium...Sucrose or Fructose...so if 'Fruit
Smoothies' are handy ( and not the origin of the offending agent in the
first place, ) add a generous -
1/2 tsp. Baking Soda
1/2 tsp. common Salt
1/2 tsp. Potassium Chloride ( Salt Substitute )
Between these, he would do well to drink a Gallon of tepid ( Boiled for at
least ten minutes, then cooled to about Body temperature ) Water into which
Three Tablespoons of common Salt have been dissolved, which will flush out
( pass through ) his system similar to Diahrrea, in an hour or two, but in
a positive manner with no loss of body fluids.
Thinking amoebic or bacterial illnesses 'have to run their course' is a good
way to kill someone.
Is there any fever?
Any Rashes?
Aches?
He might have Cholera, he might have Typhus, who knows? It is not like you
are visiting 'Mayberry' afterall.
Chineese have decent enough practical Medical Doctors...I think you would do
well to get him to one, or, get one to him.
Even 'common' Dysentery or Enteric Fevers are potentially serious
conditions, especially for those not of the regions in which they are
common.
Good luck...
Best wishes!

Dear Tony,
Dear Tony,
Perhaps a doctor is in order. Some years back I came down with similar
symptoms and ended up in the hospital in a diabetic coma. I didn't know
anything about diabetes and kept trying to drink coca cola to soothe my
tummy. Of course my sugars continued to rise, almost to the point of death.
That experience has caused me to seek medical help instead of relying on my
own judgment.
Good luck.

Hi Tony,
Oh good...glad to hear..!
I easily over-worry a little sometimes.
Not much, but a little...maybe just enough...who knows?
Lol...
Love,
Phil

Hi Phil: Thanks for the advice. I brought along Gastrolyte which is a oral
rehydration salt with citrate that Trevor took and is back on track. He's
back in the land of the living.
Best,
Tony

Tony,
Take him to the clinic, NOW.
Hopefully, they will do what they do in Japan, and put him on an IV
for fluids and electrolytes. They are not so afraid of getting
sued in Japan, so they use IVs whenever there is a loss of fluids.
Can even do it at my doctor's clinic.
Better safe than sorry! My mother died in January 2000 from the
flu because she didn't get to the doctors in time. Spent 6 hours in
emergency waiting room! There was a flu epidemic and it hit San
Diego hard.
Good luck,
Lee
