Whew........ one is out of the inferno, thank goodness. I was so
relieved to hear from
Stephanie.

I just heard that Kris's family...... Kris,
unbelievable husband and their six kids (from 4 months to 18).......
are in Yuma, Arizona. She
confirmed what Stephanie noted...... that the whole fire scene is
everywhere and incredibly,
resoundingly scary...... that the news is covering the more
accessible and dramatic scenes,
which is to be expected, of course. Kris's home is in Spring Valley
in San Diego so I wasn't
too worried since there was no mention in any way of Spring Valley -
not verbally nor on those
banners that run under the talking heads. I assumed that all was as
well as it could be. Not.
Kris's mom (my son's former wife) lives only 30 minutes away normally
but there was no way
they could get through to her house.

They had about 30 minutes to evacuate but had already packed two
vehicles so were
ready. The roads out to the desert were blocked by fires everywhere,
including the
interstates BUT, wonder of wonders, they were able to take the
highway to Yuma where,
while crowded, was nothing like the carnage everywhere
else. Bernie's parents (Michigan)
have a small mobile home they keep in a park in Yuma for the winter
months. They came
down to open it up and make it all right with the park residents for
kids to be there since
normally it's all adults.

Whew again....... now for the friend in Malibu and the one in
Arrowhead. I'm getting no
response even by cell. Has anybody heard from Terry Sullivan? I
think he's in San
Marcos and they've had their share, I know....... and Richard
Burkett? I know there must
be many other claybuds up to their ears, getting out with what they can grab.

Take care of yourselves and your loved ones.
