i have attached some pix of paintings that
i have just finished. click below/clayart page

i think it is an example of balance without
mathematical perfection.

this new series is about blocks of color like
windows.
there is still the sense of landscape.

any comments are ok.
i am happy with this series...so anything said
never bothers me.

like richard aerni....i have to please me.
if they communicate to anyone...then i am delighted.

Thanks for posting images Mel.

I can't discuss form without something to see.
(it reminds me of the Emperor's New Clothes)

Regarding your paintings,
I like them a lot.
That's not very critique-y though.

They are like windows...just as you said
to your soul
spirituality and passion
overcoming lots of deep thoughts, feelings

The third one I feel like a voyeur
can't stop peeking in to understand what I'm looking at
stepping back away
taking off my glasses
my mind imagines all sorts of things.

very cool

Hi Mel

They involve the viewer (me) because loosely defined shapes and colors cause
the mind to try to make something familiar out of them. In this case, I am
reminded of doors, windows, shades partially lowered, etc- making me imagine
interiors. The paintings are mysterious, so one would not soon tire of
looking at them. And the lush colors can be enjoyed without assigning
meaning.

That's my quick impression,

Interesting paintings Mel. Being off clayart for so many years and
just recently rejoining I'm having a blast following all the links
that people put in their posts.

I knew you painted, but I had no idea about your style.

Painting number one I found to be very easy on the eye. Well
balanced. Art that could fit anywhere... a hotel lobby, someone's
hallway, on a bank wall. But, it didn't make me think. I could've
walked right by it in that hotel lobby and not have given it another
thought. Is that good or bad? Should art be somewhat confrontational
like biting a habarano pepper or go down smooth and easy like a Godiva
chocolate? For me, it just depends on the day. And today I like
habarano peppers. Which leads into...

Painting number two. This one kept drawing me back to stare at it.
At first I disliked it. Then I decided I really did indeed like it
very much. The cobalt blue at the bottom third of the painting sure
is "in your face". Its a good blue to put right there, in that spot.

Painting number three. Oh, this is like staring up at the clouds on a
summer day. I see a horse emerging from the water. But, that's just
me. I am horse passionate and I seem to see horses in everything I
look at. This painting has much more depth than the others and is
good to stare at.

Thanks for sharing Mel. I hope I didn't offend with my comments, I
didn't mean to. Maybe some day I will be brave enough to put my
paintings up on a forum for a public opinion... but not just yet... I
am too lilly livered!
