iron glaze observation

this is all observation over years
of firing iron bearing glazes.
cone 10...reduction and oxy.

slow cool at the low end ...from 1600F to room temp
will give the best iron reds. never open early.
(see posts from dannon rhudy on this subject.)

clearing the kiln of reduction at 2350F and letting
them cool fast at the high end will give the best blacks.
for all temmoku glazes...it seems that slow cooling is the best.

thickness variation is also very critical. the thickness can
alter the blacks.

if you want crystal growth..then down fire.
about 1900F for a few hours( 2-4).
and, you will get golden crystals.

as i have said, and repeated a thousand times.
`more interesting things happen to glazes when
they cool, then when they fire.

i am still blown away by the tests that bruce girrell did on his
electric fired pots. seen at nceca last year. amazing stuff.
