Phil,
Long time since I played with some of these things.
I recall I got one lot rather hot and there was quite a vigorous =
conflagration. Fumes were strongly Orange Brown and rather irritating in =
the nose.
For a neat trick, mix powdered Silver nitrate with Magnesium powder. =
Allow one small drop of water to fall on the mixture ! ! ! ! Brilliant =
flash ! ! ! !
That violet fume thing. Put a couple of crystals of Iodine in a round =
bottomed flask. Close the neck with a cotton wool plug. Warm gently. The =
violet vapour will condense on the cool parts of the flask and hang =
down. Pretty
