Maybe Wayne is right...
The jiwire site lists six (count 'em, 6) wireless highspeed internet
"hot spots" in Black Mountain, NC:

I'm not sure how this fits in with Wayne's Verizon wireless service,
though. The nearest Verizon store to Black Mountain, NC is in
Asheville, by the way.

I don't have a wireless laptop, but I see people using them every time I
have a coffee at a trendy local joint in downtown Belleville. I'm sure
there must be others...

Thanks for searching Helen!...blieve me I still am.
Like I said..it's deceiving.
go 10 miles east or 2 miles off the interstate and you have no
connection.
all wireless life is related to interstate traffic..literally!
yeah, I can go 8 miles into town (Old Fort) and sit at Hardee's or
Mcdonalds to get a "hot spot" if I want, but I can't get a cell phone to
work at my house.
this is...the mountains.
I do use verizon cause it is the widest network..but... .I use it when I
go.....out. got it when my daughter started driving 6 yrs ago cause I
realised payphones were obsolete.
my postal address is black mountain,nc but that doesn't mean I live
nearer than 18 miles to it...just barely in the county.
best,
maggie..
