I agree with Karl.

Until the second world war the green in coke bottles came
from uranium oxide. Then the government decided that all
uranium, oxides and all, were needed for the Manhattan
Project.

You older folks out there may remember the clear coke
bottles that were made for a year or so until they came up
with a substitute for uranium. Surprisingly, it was a cheap
material at that time.
