If you have recommendations for brushes which are best suited to applying
glazes then please let me know. I want some brushes to be quiet soft and
that would allow glaze washes to be applied with control. All comments and
suggestions are welcomed... Marshall

For applying glaze or engobe to a broad surface, I really like hake
brushes. They're really soft and you can find them pretty broad - I
have one that's about 3 1/2 inches wide. Also, those breakaway brushes
made from bamboo (don't know the real name - sorry) are good. They sort
of look like pan pipes. You can break parts of them off to get the
width you want.

Most clay suppliers would have both, I suspect.

Erin.

Dear Marshall,

My hands down absolute favorite glaze brush is what house painters call a
chip brush. It ranges from 1" to 3"? I like the ones with longer
bristles. These are a natural bristle brush with wooden handles. They are
the least expensive brushes you can buy. Found at hardware and paint
stores.

Japanese brushes are the softest I have found.
