i have found over the years that putting on a
pair of very tight batters gloves first, then a
good pair of welders gloves over them, works
like a charm.

if you want to take off your welders gloves, you
still have the tight fitting gloves on your hands for
detail work.

in my experience, most burns happen when the potter
takes off the welders gloves....then picks up that hot
object. oppps, owwww.

i use batters gloves kiln when firing. in fact i now
use them when i load the kiln. those sharp glass pieces
from glaze do not cut me any longer. it is always the one
you do not see, or miss when you clean shelves that cuts
as deep as can be. (most often on the edge.)

most big box, target, walmart, etc. carry batters gloves in the
sporting goods dept. for small handed folks, get the kid size.
keep them tight. velcrow them on. they cost about 12 bucks.
so...throw them away when they get holes.

never use a glove with a hole around high heat.

She was first batter in softball for several yrs in her yngr yrs.
always thru everyone off guard because she was...first batter, hit the
first pitch and made it to first base everytime.
