Got email from this company: http://www.miraclebat.com at both my personal
and school email accounts stating that I subscribed, which I hadn't.
Assuming it came through Ceramics Daily, that is the only subscription that
comes to both addresses.
Has anybody purchased this system?
Starter kit is $70, and each 12" bat is $31!
Be interested to know what folks think of this product.

Seems like a lot of money. You can make a system for yourself very
easily and cheaply. Buy several plastic bats. Cut a square out of the
center of each of varying sizes. Cut a small v-shaped notch out of
one edge. Then cut square bats from 1/4 tempered masonite to fit the
squares you cut out. rub the surface with oil to seal it. Then, just
put a plastic bat on your wheel, pop in a square, throw the pot, and
pop the bat out with a screw driver in the notch. I don't even wire
cut the pots usually. They just pop off leather hard.

Hi, The Miracle Bat is new. I tried one then bought more.
They are great!!! You can't make your own ...
I Thought of trying though. They are made out of a patented material that
you can not get..also has air chambers etc. built into it for their great
drying feature which their video explains and shows it dries way different
then anything on the market you can't duplicate it with other materials. You
can't piece meal these things together. Like somebody else was trying to say
to do.
They have a light weight, self centering, quick on and off, doesn't rely
on bat pins, great unique gripping system that has a strong hold that doesn't
budge when I throw large amounts clay which is important to me and pieces
pop right off at leather hard stage no need to wire undercut ever also
leaves nice smooth bottoms.
The whole system is way better then anything else and I've tried a
lot of bats through the years. Miracle Bat I can say is better then
plaster/blends,wood and composites, marine board, masonite, hardiboard,
plastic etc.
Plus if I want to work on a
piece after I have taken it off the wheel I can pop the bat back on and it
is perfectly self centered so I can continue working on the piece. It works
great for students who leave a piece and need to come back to it. It is easy
and quick to put on and take off. Occasionally I have a student who wants to
use a Griffin Grip on a piece and the Griffin Grip fits right over the
adaptor and works great for that.
There is a professor from one of the art schools demonstrating on their
website video -nice video. I think he was a production potter at one time
also. And there is another video demo on how the air
flows and it shows how Miracle Bat is different then how plaster, composites
plaster blends, wood, plastic etc. dry pieces. You can see it will make a
difference in how things dry. I am sick of false promises made by other
bats (and tools and equipment in general) for example that "they breathe"
and they are really stuck together with resins and glue-they don't breathe!
You buy them then are stuck with crap.
This MiracleBat breathes and grips they show it and they guarantee it. Yeah
it costs more but I am sick of using make do cheap crap stuff that half work
in comparison and that wastes my time energy and money.
I got rid of that garbage thinking that says "I am a
superior potter because I can use cheap make do stuff and have it half
work." In the long run quality tools save money time frustration and energy.
This is one of those tools for me no mess no wasted time it does what I want
it to quick, easy, efficient every time. Marilu

Marilu,
You seem exceptionally well informed about the product. Your email
was so far over the top it made me wonder who owned the company. I
couldn't find that information when I got the spam email, so I
decided to see who owns the website. Are you the same Marylou Hornak
that owns the miracle bat
website? http://whois.domaintools.com/miraclebat.com
If not, I'm sorry and you really are a bedazzled customer. Great
advertising for the company.
If so, I would much rather hear from the owner of a company acting in
his or her role than from someone hyping their product in
disguise. Don't make the same mistake John Mackey, CEO of Whole
Foods, made. His Internet shenanigans brought him a lot of bad press.

Thanks for this comment. I had wondered about these
bats also, and found the price daunting without confirmation
from someone reliable that they do, actually, work.
I guess I know what my Xmas present will be after
all ...

Man I can not believe the audacity of your accusations! Someone ASKED for an
opinion and I gave it. I am exceptionally informed as you put it because I
use it! and I am sick of all the junk that is out there. This is the second
time I have been confused with some other Marilu on this forum. Who is a
wonderful person but not me. And now I am confused with a Marylou-
completely different spelling. I do not own the company I do love their
Product. Obviously you are just looking for something to go off on- why not
just hit your delete key if you think something is spam. I am sick of the
negative remarks towards people that have positive things to say about what
they like. Yet it seems perfectly okay to go on about things in a negative
way.It is my opinion and I have a right to say it. Do you have an investment
in some other Bats that you want to see do well and have reason to knock
this one? You sure seem awful quick to get extremely hostile. Or did you
just have a bad Holiday season. Man!-Marilu

I've used the bat system I described for thirty years. I didn't
invent it. Most of the potters I know in Ann Arbor use a variation of
this system. It's easy and cheap. You can buy a sheet of masonite for
what one of those bats costs. I have stacks and stacks of bats of
varying sizes. I've had most of them for at least twenty years. They
take up far less space than round bats. They are sized to the pieces
I make. They eliminate the need to touch a pot until ready to trim.
Some tools are easily fabricated. Others are not. I prefer to spend
my money on tools that I can't easily and cheaply make.

Charlie Cummings- thanks for the off line apology but you know you pretty
harshly and wrongly accused me of something on a public forum it would be
nice to see that apology posted on clayart.-Marilu

My apologies also, Marilu. Nothing wrong with
enthusiasm, I'm sorry to have been so rash with my response.
