I'd like to voice in on this discussion. I have a Ph.D. which is the
terminal degree in my discipline. This advanced degree is required to
teach. Without the degree, no matter how much one loves to teach it
simply is not possible in the University setting. My recommendation to
those who do want to teach pottery in a University setting is to go back
to school and get the MFA. I do know how difficult it is and have lots of
memories of raising two young children while busting it in the classroom
and lab for 4 1/2 years in grad school. And I hope we all applaud the
unbelievable effort of Kelly and Tony as they take us through their
stories and struggles to get their degrees - I know I do. But you know
what, the time goes by with or without working on that degree. If there
is absolutely no way to go back to school there may be an opportunity to
teach at a community center - and I have had some excellent teachers in
that environment.
Best wishes on your journey no matter which way you get there.
