Hi,
I sent a query re Red Celadon for my teacher about a week ago. Got all
types of responses, thanks! He said that the glaze IS called Red
Celadon, but probably is a copper red (one ingredient is frit). We
looked thru your responses as to why the glaze (at cone 10--reduction)
is giving uneven colouring (from green to blood red). He thinks that it
has something to do with the atmosphere in the kiln, but still not sure
what. Evidently he has promised a customer a dinner set that needs to
be all red, so the pressure is on.
Any other ideas, comments welcome.
BTW, also thanks for all the great info (archives, references and offers
of help) re pit firing. I've shown the responses to my teacher and he
is pondering how to get his head around all of this info on the 'net. A
bit overwhelming at the first look! Maybe we'll make a Clayarter of
him, yet?!
Also, have seen reference to the Complete Potter series. Is this a good
investment (all or some)? Our library doesn't have...
Cheers,
Deborah Zinn
