Ah, Wayne. You should have known better. You
should have recorded that conversation. It's legal to
do so in most places, if one of the parties involved
agree to it. In this case, you'd have been the one to
agree. Not necessary to let the other party know (of
course, in that case, he'd not dared to voice such an
idiotic remark/thought/whatever-it-was). Don't talk
with FEMA, IRS, police, insurance - any officials- unless you
record what is said. That gives you some footing for
a re-match, as it were. Even the police cannot prevent
someone being "interviewed" from recording the conversation -
they record it themselves, and many others do too.
Women being harrassed at work - or who think they are -
can/should have a small voice-activated recorder in their
pocket. And keep their mouths shut about it. Men, same thing.

Doesn't mean you'll always win an argument,
but it sure can give you a good place
to stand when someone in authority is making
your life miserable. Especially if you are an innocent
party. Idiots often have big mouths, in my experience.
