a special thanks to the many of you that gave out good
ideas to stand plates for a photo shoot.
(many of you are shooting plates for shows and manuscripts and need
great imaginative photos.)

this was not just for me....i wanted the forum to address an
issue that many potters struggle with.

of course horizontal shooting is perhaps the best, thank phil for that.

but, often the back drop is set in one place, lights are up, and it is ready
for the average shoot...a good solid backrest and Velcro will do the
job well. i like the double brick, duct taped and with felt on the bottom..
permanent mounted heavy duty velcro with stick on velcro for the back
of the plate. nice. the velcro would hold the plate and the need for blu tac
would be eliminated.
i had two private emails with that system suggested. also it would be easy
to use silicone glue to attach the second brick...make it so it could be moved
from time to time for different sized platters/or back lean.

i am sure the small tri/pod with velcro would work well too.
i have never had good luck with suction cups...my clay is too rough.
so.
thanks again everyone that helped with this idea.

as paul pointed out, the use of light in a very creative way will
more than excite the viewer. that is when the professional photographer
shines.

Check out the wide velcro for sale at fabric shops. I think it's
about 2 inches wide and has a sticky backing. It's rugged enough to
hold up a large platter. You can cut off a small amount at a time.
