Hi James, Mel, all...
James, you just reminded me...some months ago went onto the 'e-bay' and won
a nice old 'Back up Beeper' which is the sort intended for the really large
Earth Moving Equipment, very LOUD, adjustable for pitch, and New-Old-Stock
from ohhhhhhhhh, 1963 or so, and came in the original Box and everything,
with hook-up instructions and all...pristine as can be, about the size of a
big Lunch Box, connections for 6 Volt, 12 Volt or 24 Volt...
Anyway, I figured I would install it under the rear area of my 1960 Step
Van, have a little Toggle Switch on the Dashboard to actuate when needed,
and, be in good shape for any occasion where some idiot in a toyota gets HIS
back up lights on AFTER I was starting to back out, or is dautling in my
way, or people standing and talking or something, when I am trying to back
out of somewhere...
I was busy, and forgot I even got the darned thing..!
So thank you for the remind, I will install it tomorrow and see how it
sounds...
Best wishes!
Phil

I am with Dannon. I can drive coast to coast with no sound in the car. I
really love the quiet...makes my kids crazy. I think, I draw, I pot, I
invent, all in my head...when I pot, I really like no sound. Occasionally
music or an audiobook...I learned to pot with a wonderful homemade kick
wheel, the balance is perfect on that thing and there is no sound. Potted
production with that for years...then bought an electric wheel, and even
tho' its sound is just a low hum, I don't really like the noise- potting on
my kick wheel after a stretch on the electric one- its just like coming
home.
take care!

I frequently find that silence is more interesting than
noise when I'm working. Depends what I'm doing,
though. In the studio I might start with some music
or an audio book, but often by the time the CD is
done, I'm past hearing it anyway, and never think
to start something else. Used to drive my students
crazy to walk into a silent room, with only the sound
of a wheel turning, sometimes not even that.
I don't see how anyone can watch tv and work - but
then I have a one-track mind, and I just shut out all but
whatever I'm working at, anyway.
When I'm doing repetitive throwing, then whatever
music suits the form can play all day......
