I attended my first American Pottery Festival this fall at Northern
Clay Center. It was great! All meat and no rigamarole!

You can see many of the activies here (but they don't list all the
workshops and slide lectures):

It was very affordable. You could take in all the
lectures on one day for only $5.00! I was really busy, but was able
to take in the slide lectures of Sarah Heimann (NH), Gail Kendall
(NE), , Sequoia Miller (WA), and saw just a little bit of Mark
Shapiro's (MA) demo. The demos cost a little extra.

The quality of the gallery show is one of the best in the
country, if not the world.

Karen,
I've been fortunate enough to attend the last 3 NCECA conferences. The
first year I was a little overwhelmed because so much was going on and
there was so much to see. I really didn't see much the first year because
I was like a chicken with its head cut off.

The last two years, however, I knew what I was in for and I saw a lot
more. I did the bus tours and saw all of the displays in the convention
centers, attended lectures, looked at the vendor booths, watched the
demos, etc. Then since they recommend you only sign up for one bus tour
and I had a car, I drove a couple of the other tours, so got to see so
much more. In Pittsburgh I'll have a car and plan to do the same.

I have several photo galleries that you can look at online to see some of
the sights from the last NCECAs.

NCECA 2005 http://www.nceca.phanfare.com/album/43454 not many pictures
in this one.

The Clayart room is amazing. Last year they had members bring pots for
display and they also had mini-workshops (for want of a better term) in
the Clayart room. They did photographing your pots, kiln maintenance, and
others that I don't remember. But a great group of people with similar
interest sharing with one another. It's a great experience.

I need to make those plane ticket reservations! In just a few words what
is it that makes NCECA special or not? I am curious to see what is
happening now in contemporary ceramics. Is there any other venue in the US
that might also be interesting? I would love to hear anyones thoughts...

I'm sorry if this is a duplicate. It didn't appear to go the first time I
tried.
