Hello Gene,
That cascading fireworks effect that Hill gets is certainly a stunner.
After a couple years itching from that glaze, I thought that I would take
a passing scratch. Eight candidates likely to produce good effects over the
Strontium Crystal Magic were applied over one and two dips of the SCM.
These were all good glazes for me over porcelain. Last kiln load, ^10, O2
Held the temp at 1980 for three hours on the way down to coax more red from
some Fe reds.
The tests with SCM came out very runny and very, very dry. You can bet that
is where the fluidity is coming from, also are you using a wood ash as well?
As Richard points out, that one isn't going to be easy. And its a good thing.
I am going to keep scratching at that one from time to time.
An interesting aside is that Tom Coleman describes his original Barium carb
formula as "...a beautiful butter smooth surfaced glaze..."
When you get there, shout a hint over your shoulder.
Good Luck,
Tom King
