First a "thanks" to Mel for helping me figure out how to post on the site. I am a babe in the woods where email is concerned.
Now, on to NCECA. I am so excited that it's in Pittsburgh this year as I grew up just 40 miles west of there across the river in Ohio and just moved back to this area last year. Talk about perfect timing.
There is so much to do and see in Pittsburgh as well as a zillion great restaurants of
every variety. The ethnic diversity adds such great depth to the city's personality and culture there too. You're going to love this city.
I do have one warning to pass on. Streets and freeways are constantly undergoing reconstruction. Please check and recheck any maps or directions you get no matter how good the source! If you don't know your way around it is really easy to get lost and confused!
The other thing you should do is learn to speak Pittsburgh-ese. It's a running joke that locals speak a different language. We call rubber bands "gumbands" and talk about "redding up" when we are tidying up before company comes.
Hope to see bunches of you there. Let me know if anyone wants to learn more of the local dialect. -Kim Hohlmayer aka beadiepotter@yahoo.com

Kim,

I was also born in Pittsburgh, but that was back when the mills were going
strong and there were giant piles of slag everywhere. Moved away before my
first birthday - well my parents actually did the moving.

Just to get everyone ready, be sure to visit this site:

Which eateries should we not miss?
Anything within walking distance of the convention center?
