not sure who requested the info but there was a recent post about a certain tabletop wheel...
to search archives for this kind of wheel....search for tabletop, portable, and/or does the brand name have to be included?
I don't know about anyone else, but I seem to be really dense when trying to search for things in the archives....is there a tab, icon or something I could create to get me there quickly and then all I have to do is put in subject?
not sure if it's the anti-virus stuff or what, but a lot of things I cannot access cause of "cookies" and/or popup blockers, etc...it gets really frustrating and I am "geekless in Virginia"....

Beth,
Try searching 'portable'- I posted about them a year or two ago. The
Artista seems to be the one that came the most highly recommended. I needed
a wheel I could tote in my car to demos and the Artista had this obstruction
in the center, between the container-holders, to people who would be
watching, so I went with a bigger wheel called the Throw and Go from Great
Lakes. It still fits in my car, but does not do well in airline baggage
situations. I thought the Soldner clip-on wheel looked awesome, but the
price is hefty. And Axner has a portable one too, but it still looks pretty
big. I would think the main test would be to throw on each one, if there is
a supplier near you. Hope that helps!
Take care,
Pat in SD, where the winter is getting interminable, and I am thinking of
starting to tan, except that its not supposed to be good for you...I NEED
sunlight!!!...fake or otherwise!

I have a student who owns one of the Creative Industries "Artista" tabletop
wheels. It is a very nice little unit, and works great. However, to make
it truly functional and flexible, you'd want to purchase the foot pedal and
leg set, and that brings the price up to as much as a Creative Industries
ClayBoss wheel, which is an inexpensive but very nice full-size electric
wheel.
So, if you really need the portability, and/or if you really are going to
use it on top of a table and want to stick with the manual control, then it
is a good deal. But if you don't need the portability and would like the
performance of a full-size wheel, get the ClayBoss or one of the other more
reasonably-priced full-size wheels.

I think you're talking about the Arista or Artista wheel. Elizabeth =
Priddy will know for sure the name and company; she worked with them at =
her PC conference last year.

The Artista is as powerful a performer as most full-size wheels
and is working very well for me - I'm currently throwing a floor
pot as big as I can get into my kiln with no problems. The hump
in the middle that Pat Lindemann mentions is needed - it's full
of motor!
The only problem they have is that the controller fails more
often than it should. The warranty terms as written are scary,
but in practice turn out to be OK - just phone them toll-free
(I've never got an answer from email) and they send a replacement
board with instructions to return the old one in the same box.

Thanks, everyone, for opinions on tabletop wheels - and I did find some archived info as well when I used the right search terms.

I have an Artista table top wheel that I ue in a pinch if I have my
regular wheel cleaned for porcelain and I need to throw a foot or
something to add to a handbuilt piece of
a different clay.
I do not have the foot pedal. The saleswoman at NCECA told me not to
get the foot pedal. She has these wheels in her classroom and the
students work well without the foot pedal. In fact, I don't even think
about the foot pedal. I set the speed to center, slow it for throwing
and pulling up, and I am done. It is a very handy wheel. I am happy
with it. It serves its purpose and is convenient to tote to places for
demonstrations.
