Last night I watched a "Dirty Job" TV show and one thing they covered was a CURRENT mid-south america town that made bricks. It, as usual, was interesting, BUT I was really surprised on the lack of controls of the process and the safety of the worker bees - including the forman. Most of the workers did piece work which meant that it was non-stop back breaking work. Since I have COPD (enphasima) due to many of my own issues/making - I really observed that NOBODY wore a mask/filter. There was silica/dirt/chemicals/dust EVERYWHERE!!!! In case of mixing some of the raw materils for 'coloring" or other purposes ithe cmemicals were mixed on a floor with a shovel, and then shoveled in a Hopper. Dust was everywhere!!!. It was almost a shame to watch. The Kiln work was almost as bad. I would bet that anyone working in that factory would have some sort of lung desease within 10 years. WHERE WAS OSHA??? I was just wondering if any of you claybuds saw this TV show. As for me with
emphasima and I must be on oxygen at night and just got over my fifth bout of pneuminia it was almost a tramitric experience as I had been in that worker situation whem I was younger am and REALLY suffering from it now. bottom line - BE CAREFULL - It is no fun in later years to not have your health...
