Hi Gang,
This week on the Food Network was a show "Worlds Best Places To Pig Out".
The Primanti Brothers reaturant in Pittsburg was on the show for this monster sandwich .
I was wandering if any past or present locals knew of the place. There are several locations according to yahoo. I even found one that seems to be close to the Omni William Penn hotel. The Sandwich looked really good but big enough to fill two people. Anyone up for
"The Great NCECA Sandwich Challenge" ? I'll bring gold stars for anyone that can finish a whole one !! Who's hungry ???

Hey Bonnie & All!

He He He! From wHat I saw of tHe sandwicH on t.v. I would Have no doubt even tHree people could get full on one ! :oD THat's wHy I'm offering a gold star to any one person tHat could eat tHe wHole one.
I'm sorry ! I'm doing penance for forgetting tHe "H" last time. I'm really embarrassed by that. As for the fat & cholesterol from the sandwich ... well I understand & respect what you're saying but, I have a glaze that contains 90 % manganese dioxide that I use 2-3 times a year so 1/2 a once in a lifetime sandwich doesn't make me or "my girlish figure" worry too much. I just hope people remember what show I said I saw it on ... "The worlds best places to pig out" That title doesn't imply it's health food. It's pure, unadulterated omnivore heaven. Hey, the sandwich has coleslaw on it doesn't it? That counts as a veggie serving right? ;oD
Well , I guess that's about all the silliness I can stand from myself for now .
Have a good one Y'all !

Hi Logan and other NCECA attendees this year,

Primanti Brothers is very well known in Pittsburgh (note the H at the end of
Pittsburgh, PA). There is the original site, in the strip district (one of
the bus tours), and there are several smaller sites, including one about 2-3
blocks from the Omni Hotel downtown. There's another site at the baseball
stadium.

Their deli sandwiches are an experience, and IMHO one sandwich will easily
feed 2 people. They make great NY style deli sandwiches, and then put the
cole slaw and the French fries on top of the meat, etc., with the second
piece of bread on top.

This sandwich will probably give you a week's worth of fat and cholesterol
all in one but it will be worth it!

If they haven't moved it, there was one VERY close to the William Penn
- Just around the corner in a parking garage. The one on the strip is
the best of the batch, though. I intend to have at least two while
we're there. Nobody else builds quite the same sandwich. I've been
trying for ages to get my local sandwich place to understand that the
fries go IN the sandwich, but they haven't caught on. It's a
Pittsburgh institution.

Hi Logan and other NCECA attendees this year,

Primanti Brothers is very well known in Pittsburgh (note the H at the end of
Pittsburgh, PA). There is the original site, in the strip district (one of

blocks from the Omni Hotel downtown. There's another site at the baseball

Bruce,

They do that here in Belgium! They call it a "Mitraillette". a
Mitrailleuse is a machine gun, this is a little machine gun.

There are several variations but basically it's half a "Pain
Francais" which in Belgium is a long, fatter version of the thin
french baguette. This is then stuffed with "Frites" and a hamburger
or hotdog or some kind of sausage or sometimes multiple of the any of
the former then topped with mayonaise or one of the other, many
delicious Belgian frite sauces.

MMMMMMMM!! Low conscience food!!

Russel,

A mitraillette is a small and light machine gun,
like hand-held
Mitrailleuse is a heavy machine gun.
