I get a lot of advice here, in the present discussion or in the
archives. I just wanted everybody to know how I worked out last year's
"How do I keep my pug mill from freezing" problem.
My pug mill is in an unheated cinder block garage, and when the weather
gets below freezing, I haven't been able to use it.
This winter, I wrapped one of those pipe-heating cords around it, from
back to front. Then I found some precut pieces of pink wall insulation
in the top of the garage, and some very thick sheets of that
styro-looking foam insulation, and kind of boxed it in. Nothing is
attached permanently, so I can just lift off the insulation whenever I
need to pug.
All winter long it has been just fine, until this week when it suddenly
dropped to "keep the brass monkey indoors" temperatures. It will warm up
again when we go back to regular old butt-freezing temperatures. I keep
the slop wet in my studio and use it to push out a bucket of "pug mill
aged" clay (complete with rust specks, lol)
OK -- I'm done with supper and headed back out to the studio. I got a
nice fire going in the pot bellied stove this morning, and have a dozen
works-in-progress out there waiting. I had a good crit last night with
Lee and Diana, and have a big list of "make five more like that" pots to
work on.
Keep warm, all.
Yours
Kelly in Ohio, where it's still snowing and blowing.
