Hi All,
I,ve been following this thread with interest and have a couple of "maybe
obscure" references that have given me insight into my own artistic life
journey. Yes, I'm "an old white guy". Wise? Maybe (always wanted to be).
Fortunately, my life has been a continual process of change and transition,
a search for knowing.
The references are collections of Classic Stories and Mythic Tales. Fairy
tales for adults, collected from many cultures and interpreted from a
Jungian perspective. Seems that many old cultures have these tales that
'point the way' for individuals as they pass through the stages of life. The
tales all predate western phychological models and I think provide some
insights into them.
"Once Upon A Midlife - Classic Stories and Mythic Tales to Illuminate the
Middle Years" Allen B. Chinen, 1992, ISBN 0-87477-677-5
"Beyond the Hero - Classic Tales and Teaching Stories for Men", Allen B.
Chinen,
1993, ISBN 0-87477-737-2
The story that best illuminates my current stage is "Go I Know Not Whither,
Bring Back I Know Not What" (from Russia). The journey began in 1989. I
have a couple of times thought is completed. Not so.
The dance continues as the journey unfolds.
What I know informs what I create, what I create inform what I know.
I would hope that these tales from other times and places illuminate your
way and provide you with the same "comfort of knowing in the chaos of
transition" that they have given me.
