Hi,

I'm a potter in Salt Lake and have used Muddox' Greystone clay forever. I think they are out of business. I was wondering if anyone there can tell me if Greystone is still make by someone, or if there is a clay from Sacramento that is similar to Greystone. Any info would be very helpful. I love the way that clay fires to cone 10 at such a rich red color with.

Thank you for any information you can give me.
Sincerely, Donaree Neville

Hi - greystone is definitely gone. Muddox has not made any pottery clay
bodies in several years. I bought the last 8 tons of it and am just at the
end of it. Gladding-McBean claimed that they were making greystone, but the
body they made fell apart in the glaze firing at ^10 (as in park a dumpster
next to the kiln and unload the pots into it). After 2 disastrous firings
and several unsatisfactory conversations with Gladding-McBean, I used
"1-800-Got Junk" to haul 1.5 tons of it away. It might have been suitable
as a pond liner, but nothing else. I have switched to Laguna clay bodies
WC409 and WC427. You might try those.
