Hi Melanie,
I am glad to hear your proposal got funded. I was surprised to see
that you requested over $200 to create pinch pots with 50# of clay.

Have you ever considered making your own glazes? It would make
projects like this less expensive in the future. Clay where I live
costs between 28-35 cents a pound depending on how much you order.
Your clay order would end up costing between 14-17 dollars. If you
made a five gallon bucket of glaze that might run around another $20.
So for around 40 bucks you could fund the entire project. Plus that
five gallon bucket of glaze could be used on lots of other projects
the kids make too.

Glaze making is a skill that is pretty simple to learn. All you need
is a couple of five gallon buckets with lids, a spatula and a couple
of sieves from a clay supplier and a dust mask, or respirator (a
fancier dust mask). I would purchase a 60 mesh and a 100 mesh sieve.
These would last a really long time and you could use them to make
your glaze batches in the future.

In my elementary classroom I have about 10 buckets of glaze, but use 4
or 5 of them most frequently.

We glaze over 2500 projects a year and go through 2000# of clay with a
budget of $1200. $1000 of that is clay and the other 200 goes for
glaze chemicals and glaze making supplies.

Have fun with the pinch pots,
