Depending on the project, I've dusted non-porous molds with talc , very
carefully wearing a mask and using a small bag of sheeting or infant's sock
to dust, This which might give a slight surface finish. Talc is not to be
used in public studios. Other treatments for nonporous molds that I have
used include pam, or vegetable oil to wipe, as well as the WD-40. For large
or difficult forms, stretching hose carefully over the treated surfaces
makes for easy clay removal. Texture can be ribbed out. (For children or
in group studio situations the throw away footies from shoe stores, are
great for helping with the release of clay from the small plaster hump molds
as well as protecting the forms.) If casting of complicated form is not an
option. Shrink wrapping irregular forms often helps to eliminate undercuts
and to allow easy removal of clay form. The shrink wrap can be stretched to
eliminate wrinkles, treat with oil, wd-40, etc. Later cut to allow for the
release of the clay form. Mary
