It's been a long time since i posted to my blog so i had to learn all
over again. I'm one of those guys that given a weekend off has to be
retrained on Monday. I posted a wee tid bit on the making of a jigger
mold for the large wall plates I'm about to make. This process was
inspired by Dick Aerni but being that I'm older than he , I decided to
get the help of a jigger arm. The trouble with this process is it is
not portable and so as part of a workshop it's a no go. I do hope the
boys out there that were planning to build a decent jigger are still
at the drawing table. This is a great process for we geriatric
potters. My platters ended up being just shy of 2 feet and I used 15
lbs of clay. Try throwing a 24 inch platter with 15 lbs. I suggest you
would probably need more like 30 and then would trim away almost half
and you couldn't get the narrow bottom and wide rim without throwing
really thick and trimming your brains out.
Yes, these platters are for the wall. I'm still on my quest to stay
outta the kitchen.
cheers.
