90 miles to the north and several thousand feet higher and cooler in elevat=
ion is the Rio Verde Valley with a healthy potters and clay community. And=
among the "spooks and kooks" of nearby Sedona there are some interesting c=
lay people and strong work as well.
=20
Not to forget NAU and a thriving clay community in Flagstaff as well. Ari=
zona has clay!!!
=20
Phoenix and Scottsdale people have summer homes up here. The heat down the=
re will pretty much cook your lungs if you go outside.

Give us a look before you settle in phoenix, or come to visit us anyway.

Hello,
I am currently living in central Arkansas, but I am thinking seriously about moving to phoenix this summer and I was wondering if anyone who lives in that area could give me some info/advice about what kinds of resources for potters are available. I have my own wheel and kiln, but would be interested in joining a clay or craft guild, info about clay friendly galleries and places to work or give lessons.
Thanks!

Marjon's in phoenix and tucson will have most everything you need for pottery. a great store, good people, and fun open house each summer with their clay olympics day.
i wonder how many pottery suppliers have discovered how useful an open house like that can be? it's a fun social event for potters. they also usually have various suppliers come by to demo their stuff. and usually there are simple burgers, sodas, along with fun times.
i know aardvark in santa ana and marjon's do this. i know of no others so far.
of course, no one can resist making it to the book section and usually they (we, "me") buy stuff simply because we're there, it's easy, and i WANT stuff...
see ya

David, =0A=0A=0AThanks for the info - I think we'll probably settle in Phoe=
nix - my parents are there and my dad just started some Alzheimer's medicat=
ion so we have multiple reasons for relocating. I would LOVE to live in Sed=
ona, but I can't imagine ever being able to afford it. With dropping prope=
rty prices, Phoenix is just starting to look slightly affordable to me. I =
would love to stop by and see your studio, in Arkansas all the clay people =
are spread out and disconnected, even the closest clay supplier is more tha=
n a three hour drive so I am looking forward to moving someplace where I ca=
n interact with other clay artists on a more regular basis. =0A=0A=0AThank=
s for your help, =0A=0A=0AI'll give you a call the next time I'm in the are=
a, which should hopefully be in just a couple of months. =0A=0A=0Achris =0A=
